Salt Lakes in the UAE

Mysterious Pink Salt Lake in the UAE!

UAE as a country is blessed with remarkable topography that ranges from desert to mountains, from valleys to mangroves but did you know that UAE is home to Salt lakes (and some of those are Pink in colour!) as well? Read on to learn more about this mystical phenomena in the UAE.

Pink Lake in the UAE- Straight out of an artistic painting, one would need a double-check to believe that these pink lakes do exist!

Salt Lakes- What are they?!

A salt lake or saline lake is a landlocked body of water that has a very high content of salt and other dissolved minerals significantly higher than most lakes. We have a few in the UAE and the term used for a Salt lake is a sabkha. It is a coastal, supratidal mudflat or sandflat in which evaporite-saline minerals accumulate as the result of semiarid to an arid climate. Sabkhas are gradational between land and intertidal zone within restricted coastal plains just above normal high-tide level. Within a sabkha, evaporite-saline minerals sediments typically accumulate below the surface of mudflats or sandflats. Evaporite-saline minerals, tidal-flood, and aeolian deposits characterize many sabkhas found along modern coastlines.

Why is the lake Pink in Colour?

The main reason behind the distinguished pink colour of pink lakes is due to a type of algae and bacteria. The pink hue is because of the presence of Dunaliella salina. It is a type of halophile green microalgae found in sea-salt fields.

This particular type of algae has very high concentrations of salt and B-Carotene which protect against intense light. It is one of the few organisms that can survive in such highly saline conditions. The pink lake is also home to different types of bacterias, including Bacillus Mwgaterium and Bacillus Subtllis.

This Pink Salt Lake is one of the many salt lakes in the UAE

My personal experience!

Picture this! You’ve been planning for exploring this new place and you have been mentally (and physically!) preparing yourself for it. Once you’ve finally set for your journey, the weather turns hostile and you have to change your entire plan! Once you reach this backup destination of yours, you start exploring the nearby area and stumble upon something that is way fascinating than what you planned for! Well! This is Exactly what happened!

UAE’s Pink Salt Lake

It looked like a puddle from far and as I continued to walk towards it, I noticed that the water in this lake was slightly pink in colour. The closer I got, the more magnificent the view was. As I continued to walk towards it and yet a small part of me was disbelieving! I stepped on what definitely didn’t seem like sand and noticed that it began to crack and felt like quicksand. I began walking quickly again towards this bizarre sight that beckoned me! The moment I started walking towards it, I immediately understood the area around it wasn’t sand but salt. One wrong step and you end up in a puddle of corrosive salt mixed with Bacteria and Algae. Not something that I would recommend! So, be very careful. That was perhaps everyone’s mistake who previously got here (you can tell from the footprints that people perhaps either slipped or fell! Oops!). You’d know it right away the first time you step on what looks like a mix of salt and sand. Instead of that soft, caressing embrace of sand we are all familiar with, it’s the hardened salt crystals that welcome you.

The Pink Lake in UAE is located in Sayara Island, Al Rams, Ras Al Khaimah, it is about 1 hr 20 minutes from main Dubai. It is a tiny Salt lake that changes colour and is located on Saraya Island and you will not need a 4×4 to get to the exact spot, however, you have to be very careful as driving in the sand can be a bit tricky. The exact google map coordinates for the location- 25.87867, 56.00828

Word of caution:

If you plan to visit Pink lake, keep these things in mind. The place is under military and heavily guarded, please do not do anything that is not allowed as you might get into serious trouble. You will come across plenty of boards that will caution you not to tea any pictures, please abide by the laws. Also, it was heartbreaking to see how people had littered this place with plastic bottle, disposables, and whatnot, this is one major reason why travellers and explorers shy away from sharing locations to such hidden gems. Please leave the area better than you found it.

Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints.

Hope you enjoyed reading about Pink Lake in the UAE as much as I enjoyed exploring it, request you to kindly show your support towards World with Maria so I can continue exploring and bringing more such places to you. Lesser-known Camping spots in the UAE- No one tells you about!

Blessed with exceptional topography, UAE is every traveller’s dream come true, there are mountains, wadis, desert, sea, rocks, mangroves, and so on. With the weather cooling down, it is the perfect weather for camping, then be it short-term or long term camping, UAE is perfect for both alike.
Most people go camping at the weekend, Thursday to Saturday tend to the busiest days at popular locations. With this being said, there are a few lesser-known camping spots in the UAE that are perfect for anyone who wants to be away from the crowd. Check out these pics. Read on to know about these gems!

The Rub’ Al Khali or The Empty Quarter

How to reach: Follow Dubai – Ghweifat International Highway, Abu Dhabi -Tarif Road/E11 and E45 to Hameem Road.

What can I expect: Describing the world’s largest uninterrupted sand mass (covering some 650,000 square kilometres across parts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, and Yemen), explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger wrote, “It was very still, with the silence which we have driven from our world”. The magical Rub’ al Khali (Empty Quarter) offers the same serene silence that it did when Thesiger explored it with his Emirati and Omani companions in the 1940s, its fine golden and red sands shifting with the winds to form dunes hundreds of feet high and visible as far as the eye can see. For a first-timer venturing into the desert, it is advisable to have at least a couple of cars and an experienced guide for company. It might be a long and tiring drive but once you reach it will spellbind you for sure. Empty Quarter is a promising place for people looking for lesser-known camping spots in the UAE.

How far is it: Approximately 4 hrs from Dubai

Lahbab sands

How to reach: Take Al Awir Road/E44 and then Dubai-Hatta Road/Ras Al Khor Road to your destination in Lahbab desert.

What can I expect: Lahbab is well-known for its panoramic red sands, it is a favourite night-time spot for campers and stargazers. You could also head over to the village of Madam just before the Hatta border crossing for more camping spots, be careful as you might find camels casually strolling in this area. Even with everything this place has got to offer, it is still not known to many and hence it tops our list of Lesser-known camping spots in the UAE

How far is it: Approximately 1hr 40mins from Abu Dhabi Corniche.

Fossil Rock

How to reach:  via Emirates Rd/E611 and Sharjah-Kalba Rd/E102/S116.

What can I expect: Mesmerising red sand, enchanting fossil rocks that will give you a feel that you are in space! The area around Fossil Rock in Sharjah is one of the most sought-after places for desert camping in the UAE. You have plenty of shops, restaurants, etc. not too far away from this place and as not many people know about it, this one is still one of the lesser-known camping spots in UAE. The Fossil Rock area is ideal for first-time campers and large families, though a 4×4 is recommended. It is located just off the Sharjah-Kalba road, this is one of the easier spots to reach. Once you get to the Fossil Rock site, walk around a bit to find the perfect spot, the place is just so beautiful.

How far is it: Approximately 1.5 hrs from Dubai.

Fossil Rock

Acacia Forest

How to reach: Located 10 kilometres away from the Khor Najid in the mountains of the Musandam, these forests can be reached through the Ras Al Khaimah to the Musandam border. The forest lays approximately 5-6 kilometres into the wadi. A 4×4 is recommended.

What can I expect: Not a lush green forest but it is a pleasant change from the Wadis and the desert. It is a little complex to locate the woods through the maps, so it is advised to visit this place while being accompanied by a group of other campers. Convoying to the destination is the best way to keep track of the route and not get lost. The place would offer a beautiful view of Jabal al Harim. This beautiful forest usually remains very calm, especially at night. Please note that a military firing range in the area is a potential risk to the tourists; it is hence advisable to watch out for the restriction signboards. Please note this place now comes under the sultanate of Oman so prepare yourself for the border checkpoint.

How far is it: Approximately 3-4 hrs from Dubai.

Lesser-known camping spots in the UAE

Wadi Sidr

How to reach: via E88 and Al Dhaid – Masafi Rd/E88 (GPS coordinates: 25°25’16” N and 56°5’51” E)

What can I expect: A stunning Wadi in Fujairah, Wadi Sidr, includes hilly terrains with sparse patches of vegetation and camels and goats casually grazing around the area! Wadi Sidr in Fujairah promises a serene view with its unique blend of trees and mountains. Make sure to pack your barbecue grills for a memorable meal in the mountains in Fujairah. Wear comfortable shoes, explore the wadi and you will not be disappointed. This one has got a lot to offer when it comes to good and lesser-known camping spots in the UAE.

How far is it: Approximately 2.5 hrs from Dubai.

Wadis in UAE are enchanting

Wadi Al Wurayah

How to reach: via ‫Khorfakkan Road (GPS coordinates: 25.4000° N, 56.2500° E)

What can I expect: Wadi al Wurayah, with its enchanting waterfalls, is a perfect spot to escape the city life. Also, it’s a great way to witness some extraordinary geological structures that the region is renowned for. The wadi is a haven for unique wildlife and has a national park that is home to 860 recorded species, including 19 mammals, 17 reptiles, 3 fishes and 94 birds!

How far is it: 2 hrs from Dubai

UAE has got so much to offer when it comes to travelling

Cheap Flights- Genius Hacks On How To Find them!

Cheap Flights anyone?! Let’s face this, the airplane ticket is usually one the most expensive purchases of our trip and if we can (somehow!) save some bucks on that we can easily manage to travel more! Here’s the catch, finding the best airfare deal is like hunting for treasure; it’s easier if you know how and where to look! Here is an expert’s guide on how to find cheap flights. Keep these hacks in mind when searching for cheap flights and your bank account will be thankful for it! So let’s get started!

Catch flights, not feelings!

Tried and tested tips to find Cheap Flights:

1. Keep your searches top secret-

Ever witnessed an increase in flight price after searching it a number of times? Let me tell you, you’re not crazy for thinking that a flight price has changed after searching it a few times in your web browser. Blame it on the cookies in your browser, flight prices do increase when a particular route is repeatedly searched. This is primarily done to scare you into booking the flight quickly. Always search for flights in incognito or private browsing mode to see the lowest prices.

2. Make use of Social Media-

Ok this one might surprise you but guess what, your Social Media accounts might actually help you in saving some bucks! Airlines have started using social media to give exclusive discounts to their followers (to increase their social media following) via promotions, online-only fares and other deals. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Don’t forget to turn on post notifications.

3. Be Flexible-

This tip is a No brainer but still very important if you want to get that cheap flight! Always have a cushion of 2-3 days and you will definitely find a better bargain. You can also refer to monthly/weekly airfare chart that most websites have to get cheap flights.

4. Stay updated-

Stay updated for any drop in the airfare to ensure that you don’t miss that cheap flight. Alternatively, subscribe to websites, most websites give discount/vouchers to their subscribers from time to time. If airlines have left over tickets, they slash prices to make them more appealing to potential travellers. They email these deals right to your inbox. That’s a small price to pay for all the cheap fares you’ll find. Sign up to our mailing list to get the latest discounts.

5. Check One-Way & Round-Trip Fares-

You may think one-way tickets are cheaper 100% of the time, but that isn’t always the case. This tip works better with long-term travel. Depending on your travel plans, flight origin and destination, it might be cheaper to book a round-trip ticket, then skip the return portion.

6. Use A VPN (Virtual Private Network)-

VPNs allow you to change the location you’re currently browsing from to another country or city. This lets you take advantage of local prices (especially on domestic flights). This is because airlines sometimes charge different rates depending on where you complete your purchase.

7. Fly on the cheapest days-

Incase you haven’t noticed it yet or incase you noticed it and thought it to be a coincidence, let me break it to you, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are (comparatively) cheapest days to fly. According to the CheapAir study, the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday and Wednesday, while Sunday is the most expensive.

8. Snagging Deals To Find Cheap Flights To Anywhere-

To find cheap flights to Anywhere, you’ll need some planning, some flexibility, and maybe even a little luck! Many websites (For instance Skyscanner) have recently come up with the feature where you leave the destination box empty and they give you the cheapest flights from the origin. Plan in advance and make use of this feature.

9. Give This Layover Trick A Shot-

One of my all-time favourite ways to book cheap flights is by utilising Skiplagged’s handy dandy Layover Trick. While this little-known tip forces you to only bring a carry-on (which you should already be doing if you want to save money on flights!), it can chisel hundreds off ticket prices.

10. Airports Near Your Destination-

Check prices from airports that are within a few hours’ drive of your departure city and destination. Sometimes you can find much cheaper (or more direct) flights from a nearby airport. This can be especially helpful if the other airport is in a different country.

Roman Colosseum

Best Things to Do in Rome (Italy)

Rome stands as one of the finest and oldest cities in the world. The history of Rome spans over 2500 years and it has been a center of power, politics, culture and development. Various Roman emperors have ruled mighty Rome and this is the place where the colossal Roman Empire grew from. Various monuments, palaces and religious buildings have been constructed in the city and these now stand as beautiful tourist attractions. Rome is ranked as one of the top tourist destinations and with sights such as the Colosseum, it’s easy to see why!

Ultimate things to do in Rome

Some of the Ultimate things to do In Rome:

  1. Visit the Colosseum – No visit to Rome is complete without a visit to the Roman Colosseum. One of the most recognised landmarks in the world. The Colosseum is one of the most iconic symbol of ancient imperial Rome. This has to be in the list for ultimate things to do in Rome!
  2. Visit the enchanting at St Peter’s Square – One of the largest and most beautiful squares in the world. It is located in Vatican City, at the feet of St. Peter’s Basilica. Most impressive part of the square, besides its size, are its 284 columns and 88 pilasters that flank the square. In the liturgies and more noticeable events St. Peter’s Square has held more than 300,000 people.
  3. St. Peter’s Basilica – The history behind the creation of St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome is almost as amazing as the building itself. After the first Basilica was knocked down, it took 100 years to rebuild, and some of the most famous architects contributed to its design. If you are planning a visit to Rome, then you can’t miss St Peter’s Basilica.
  4. Discover The Pantheon – The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Rome. The structure, completed around 126-128 A.D. during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, features a rotunda with a massive domed ceiling that was once the largest of its kind.
  5. Make a wish at the Trevi Fountain – If you’ve been to Rome, you’ve probably tossed a coin into the Trevi Fountain like thousand other visitors. The tradition gained popularity after it was the theme of the 1954 romantic comedy Three Coins in the Fountain, but it started long before the movie. It was said that a thirst quenching glass of water from the Trevi Fountain would ensure good fortune and a fast return to the Eternal City. Over time the legend of the Trevi Fountain evolved to tossing a coin in to ensure a return to Rome.
  6. Visit the eerie Capuchin Crypt, decorated with the bones of 4,000 Capuchin Monks – Though it’s not meant to be a macabre sight, the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini is spine-tingling. This Roman church is decorated with the skeletal remains of more than 4,000 human bodies. A plaque in the crypt reads: “What you are now, we once were; what we are now, you shall be.”
  7. Visit “The Wedding Cake” Building aka Altar of the Fatherland – The colossal monument, which is 135 meters wide and 70 meters high, is comprised of scores of majestic Corinthian columns and endless stairs, carved in white marble. The top is crowned with an equestrian sculpture of Victor Emmanuel in bronze and two chariots driven by the goddess Victoria.
  8. Uplift your spirits at the colourful Spanish Steps – With its irregular butterfly design, the beautiful “Scalina Spagna”, or Spanish Steps are definitely in one of the Ultimate Things to do in Rome, and a great example of Roman Baroque Style. It’s a great place to just sit down and enjoy the atmosphere and views of the Eternal City. The steps are a wide irregular gathering place consisted of 138 steps placed in a mix of curves, straight flights, vistas and terraces.
  9. Relive history at the Roman Forum –  Occupying a sprawling space between the Colosseum, the Capitoline Hill, and the storied Palatine Hill, the Forum was the center of political, religious, and commercial life of ancient Rome and provides insight into the splendour that once was the Roman Empire. The Via dei Fori Imperiali, a wide boulevard built during the reign of Mussolini in the early 20th century, forms the eastern edge of the Forum.
  10. Go for a Rome at Night tour – Rome is even more magical in the evening than it is during the daytime. The monuments and fountains are lit up, the Piazzas hum with the energy of the excited locals and tourists alike, and the restaurants offer delicious food, wine and conversation. So, while you are in Rome, don’t forget to go for a Night Tour.
  11. Visit The Four River Gods at Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi – The four river Gods are the protagonists of the Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi) by Bernini in Piazza Navona, Rome, known as one of Rome’s finest fountains.
  12. Treat yourself with local delicacies – Roman cuisine is loved for being exceedingly flavourful, simple and satisfying. Don’t forget to indulge in some sumptuous local street food while visiting this place. Try some Allesso di Bollito, Fried Artichokes, Carbonara, etc.

Solo Female Travel Hacks that you need to know.

Over the years, I’ve featured dozens of travel tips and destination guides for the solo female traveler, but I wanted to put together a comprehensive female travel resource for everyone. Whether you are a first-time solo traveler looking for that extra push to take their first trip or a seasoned solo traveler… Solo Female Travel Hacks

Hostelworld, the largest online hostel-booking platform, has seen a growth in female solo bookings of 45% between 2015 and 2017.

Solo Female Travel Hacks that you need to know.

Some of the Tried and Tested Hacks:

1. Choose your destination wisely and plan accordingly-

Spend sometime in deciding the destination and plan accordingly. What is Fun in one country might be A Sin in another.

2. Take help of Apps for created for Women Safety-

There are plenty of apps on Google Play and App Store that are created keeping in mind women safety while travelling. Make use of such apps.

3. Do your research before you reach-

Planning is the key to a successful and safe trip. Read reviews, talk to people who have visited that place before, connect to locals, etc.

4. Ensure you don’t run out of battery on your phone-

I understand that one should not be dependent on technology always but let’s face it, our phone (most of the times!) makes things easier. Invest in a good power bank and ensure that you don’t run out of battery.

5. Inform someone about your itinerary/schedule-

Have at least one friend or family member who knows your itinerary in and out. Ensure that you inform him/her in case there is any last minute changes in your plan.

6. Write down important phone numbers-

Mobile phone has made our life so much easier but at the same time it has made us dumb! We no longer remember important contact numbers! Ensure that you write down all such important numbers somewhere.

7. Carry important medicines and your first aid-

As they say, hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Carry basic medicines and your first aid kit with you.

8. Keep a scan copy of all the important documents on a cloud storage-

Always carry a clear scan copy of all your documents, including your tickets, visas, etc. on a cloud storage that you can access from any PC.

9. Keep an eye on your drink (ALL your drinks- not just the alcoholic ones)-

It’s fun to make new friends and share a drink or two but keep an eye on what you are drinking. Adulterating soft drink/juice with drugs is very easy, don’t fall a prey to such things.

10. Be adventurous but be prepared-

Being cautious doesn’t mean that you miss out on all the fun, it means you always ensure that you are better prepared to face any unwelcoming situation. Prepare yourself for such situations so you are not left clueless.

11. Don’t neglect your gut feeling-

if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Trust your gut feeling, avoid places or people you feel are not safe. Remember, better be safe that sorry.

12. Trust but verify-

I would want to emphasize on this again, just because you are being cautious doesn’t mean that you stop interacting with people or stop having fun. Trust people but always do your own research, avoid trusting people blindly.

Mastering the art of travelling light.

Travelling should rejuvenate you, not wear you down. With all the backpacks and luggage you bring with you, travelling becomes tiring, which is wrong. In this post learn Hacks and the art of travelling light.

Travelling should rejuvenate you, not wear you down

I  remember the time when I traveled from my home to my hostel (hardly 3 hours flight) carrying 3 trolleys, 1 tote bag 1 handbag, 1 huge backpack and 1 small purse around my waist… just in case…  (it’s hard to come to terms with the fact that I carried my favorite pillow, and few empty Tupperware boxes with me!) and still had to Buy More Stuff after reaching the hostel! Over the years I have or let’s say I am trying to master the art of travelling light (Minimalism anyone?)

Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important—so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom.

Let me tell you, it is Not easy but then it is not impossible as well! So keep humming the song from ColdPlay, “Nobody said it was easy, No one ever said it would be this hard.”  and let’s get this done!

First of all, why do I need to travel light after all? Well, of course, no one will stop you from travelling with N number of bags but then if you travel light you have your own benefits.

Advantages of Travelling light:

  • Ease of travelling on public transport.
  • Fewer chances of losing your baggage.
  • Tension-free travelling.
  • Option to Stay in hostels.
  • You are (always) better prepared for impromptu plans.
  • You are more of a Traveler than a Tourist.

Believe me, once you start travelling light or start Backpacking, you will never touch that trolley again! Backpacking is a way of life and it is addictive, for good!
To start with you need to choose a backpack that is not too big nor too small, but then again the size of the backpack depends on a number of factors (duration of stay, the place you are travelling to, activities you want to do, so on)

Step 1- Make a List.

No matter how old school it may sound, if you are new at it I kid you not, get a pen and paper or create a new memo in your phone and make that damn list! It need not be in great detail just put the bullet points and write down everything you have to carry.

Step 2- Find and Strike

Yes, you heard that right, strike off everything that you can live without! I know it sounds stupid but do it anyway! Strike off those 3 cashmere sweaters, 1 sweatshirt (or cashmere sweater if you insist!) is good enough!Tip: Follow- Wear heavy, carry Light. It means you wear heavy clothes like jeans and carry lightweight clothes, like, let’s say shorts, cotton pants, etc.

Step 3- Divide and Rule.

Divide your list into “Need it”, “Might need it”, “Emergency”. Your essentials go in the 1st list, your extra pairs of everything goes in second and things like first aid, tools etc. goes in 3rd. Learn how to pack light here.

Step 4- One Plus One.

Everything needs to go in one bag, Yes, you heard that right! I am gonna be a little lenient and say one plus one but this doesn’t mean that you carry two huge backpacks! One Plus One rule means you carry one backpack and one small bag for passport, cash, mobile, etc.

Step 5- Bring back only pictures.

This step isn’t very easily digested by some (most of them!) but believe me it is something you will thank me later for. We all have clothes that we want to give away that can be tossed away without hurting much. Carry Such Clothes, give them away after using them so with every passing day your backpack starts becoming lighter. (Bonus: You can use that extra space for souvenirs!)

Step 6- Smaller the better.

“Thou shalt never carry those toiletries with you!” Ladies, take a break from makeup don’t carry that mascara and that perfume with you if you plan to travel light! You can buy cheap body lotions and soaps where ever you go. In case you really need to take it with you then make use of those free samples that you stocked up from Boots! Alternatively, you can squeeze out a little bit from the big bottle and carry the body lotions, etc. with you. Travel essential bottles are easily available in stores.

Step 7- Prepare for the best!

Lastly, the most important step is to prepare for the best! Don’t assume things and don’t pack for ‘What if’s” No heaven will fall if you leave behind anything, and thanks to globalization Everything is available Everywhere! Keep in mind your destination, the activities you plan to do and pack accordingly.

It’s easy on the pocket too! (50 USD = 1 Million Dongs! Not even kidding you!)

Vietnam has been witnessing a sudden splurge in the number of travelers visiting the country, more and more people are visiting (and even settling down in!) this country. The visa process is pretty easy as well and costs somewhere around 50 USD only.

In 2016, Vietnam welcomed 10 million international visitors which represented a 26% increase from the previous year.”

What to Eat?

Food is always given a priority in Vietnam, with most people dining out daily if not multiple times in a day! (Yes!) and I don’t blame them especially when the food is delicious and the prices are so low. Pho is found almost in all restaurants no matter how big or small. I would suggest that one should try and eat with Vietnamese locals in open-air cafés, sitting on those tiny plastic chairs and sharing tables with strangers is quite an experience of its own. Food travelers and food enthusiasts will love these meals both for the food and experience as well as the cheap prices.

Vietnamese Cuisine- A reason in itself to travel to Vietnam

Dishes Not to be missed in Vietnam-

  • Pho (Phở)
  • Banh Mi (Bánh Mì)
  • Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng)
  • Seafood (Hải Sản)
  • Cau Lau (Cao Lầu)
  • Che
  • Nem Nuong Xa

Note: Since most of the dishes have pork in them if you are a vegetarian or don’t eat pork, ask them for a substitute, they will be more than happy to suggest a seafood/vegetarian substitute for most of the dishes.

Vietnam is a paradise for shopaholics and art-lovers

What/Where do I Shop?

No one can be blamed for splurging in Vietnam, it’s a haven for budget travelers and bargain hunters! The real savings come from shopping at local markets and boutique shops. Fake luxury goods are a problem, but that’s to be expected at such low prices.

When do I travel?

Keeping the topography in mind, Vietnam is blessed with varying weather condition. The annual average temperature ranges from 22°C to 27°C year-round. There are almost no significant differences in temperature in the southern parts of Vietnam, while the northern regions can be quite cold in the winter.

The best time to visit Vietnam is spring (February to April) and autumn (August to October). The temperatures are more moderate and rainfall is lighter. In spring, March and April have the lowest rainfall across all destinations and temperatures are pleasant, though still cool in the far north.

Will I be safe?

You may have read stories about tourists being duped and stuff being snatched. Well, just like any other place, there’s always going to be a risk of all these unfortunate things happening to you, so I feel one needs to be alert always no matter which country you are visiting. One of the main safety concerns in this country is thieves on motorbikes that grab bags or mobile phones or cameras, right out of your hand! But don’t let that thing stop you from visiting this beautiful country.

I personally found it to be very safe, people are extremely friendly and helpful, not even a single day passed when I was not greeted by a dozen of friendly people. Vietnamese people are very hospitable and love tourists. So don’t be too uptight, enjoy and experience as much as you can, but always do take some precautions.

Here are a few things you can do to ensure that you don’t attract any unwanted trouble-

  • Phone – Never pull out and use your mobile phone facing or open to the busy street.
  • Camera – Likewise with a camera, you sort of have to use your own discretion of when and when not to be holding your camera out in the open to take photos. Again, try to have your back against a wall or stand to the back of parked motorbikes when you take photos of the open roads to provide a bit of a bunker.
  • Wallet – I typically like to keep my wallet in my front right pocket, and then I like to keep some small money in my left pocket. When I buy something small on the streets, I just reach into my left pocket to pay, rather than having to take out my entire wallet. Use whatever system works best for you, but it’s a good idea to have some small money to buy small things, where you don’t have to take out your full wallet.
  • Important Documents – Losing your money can be extremely inconvenient but losing your important documents like passport, etc can be even more distressful. Avoid taking out your important documents everywhere, don’t keep them in the same purse where you keep your money. Familiarize yourself with the procedure of getting a temporary passport in advance.
  • Touristy areas – The majority of muggings happen in touristy shopping areas, so use extreme caution with your valuables in these areas.
Vietnamese People are not only helpful but also friendly

Final words:

Vietnam is a beautiful country, the local people are friendly, helpful and kind, the food is delicious, don’t let any negative story about this place stop you from getting there.

Learn how to Eco-Travel!

In this post, we will talk about What is Sustainable Travel or Eco-friendly Travel or How to reduce your carbon footprints while travelling, learn how to Eco-Travel.

What is Sustainable Travel or Eco-friendly Travel or How to reduce your carbon footprints —or whatever we want to call it—the main focus is to ensure that we are not harming the environment while travelling. In this post let’s learn how to Eco-Travel so that we protect this beautiful planet.

According to the (UN) World Tourism Organisation:

“Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities…

…Sustainable tourism should also maintain a high level of tourist satisfaction and ensure a meaningful experience to the tourists, raising their awareness about sustainability issues and promoting sustainable tourism practices amongst them.”

Eco-Tourism is another commonly used term, but one that is starting to be open to more abuse as people catch on to the marketing power of ‘Eco’. In some countries, the term “Ecotourism” is simply used to describe any kind of tourism activity that involves the outdoors or wildlife: whether or not there is any responsibility or sustainability behind it. For this reason, we try to avoid using the term ecotourism.

Many organisations are trying to promote Eco-Friendly tourism, read more here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Tourism_Organization

Learn how to Eco-Travel

Here’s how you can be Eco-Friendly while Travelling:

  • Lightweight camping utensils don’t take up much space in your pack, stop using (or at least limiting the usage of) Disposable utensil, cutlery, etc.
  • You could take your own reusable metal drinking straw, try carrying it in your bag.
  • Sit down at the street food stall and use their plates rather than getting it “to go” wrapped in plastic.
  • Look for food that has a natural wrapper – a banana leaf in SE Asia for example. Keeping in mind more and more restaurants are becoming environmentally conscious, many of them do have such alternatives.
  • Avoid plane silly plastic. Stop buying disposable mini-bottles of shampoo, conditioner and soap, when they could buy reusable bottles and fill them at home.
  • Invest in getting an Eco-toothbrush. No, seriously, think of all the plastic toothbrushes thrown away every year!
  • Team it up with natural charcoal tooth cleaning products (not chemical paste) for extra Eco-warrior points!
  • Then pack those earbuds with paper stems instead of plastic.
  • Remember the 3 R’s- Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.

Shuweihat Island- A hidden Gem of UAE

Shuweihat Island-

As we all know, The UAE is blessed with a coastline that stretches over 1,318 kilometers but some people never really go out and explore it! In this post I will be talking about Shuweihat Island, a place for those who admire beauty of nature, texture and sea! The further you go, the prettier it gets.

Reaching this place is a task in itself but the rewards to anyone who makes this epic journey (from literally anywhere else in the UAE) to this stunning location are innumerable. The low-lying cliffs, caves and turquoise blue water will remind you of Petra and Bali at the same time! (Did I say, it’s the best of both the worlds!) The formations here are difficult to be found any where else in the country, so be ready to be amazed.

Ideal for a scrupulously planned, long weekend or a full day camping, Shuweihat is about as far west along the coast as you can get before you’re faced with the Saudi border – not too far past the town of Ruwais. You will need a four-wheel drive vehicle to get across the causeway and over the rocky headland, whereupon it’s best to disembark and scramble down to the water’s edge. You won’t believe your eyes – this place is so beautiful!
