My Review of The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid Toner

I am constantly on the lookout for effective yet affordable products to incorporate into my skincare routine and review them for my audience, don’t forget to read the reviews here. The Ordinary, a brand known for its no-frills approach to skincare, caught my attention for its popularity, a wide range of affordable and science-backed products. One of their standout offerings is Glycolic Acid, a potent exfoliant that promises to deliver radiant and smoother skin. In this blog post, I’ll share my personal review of the Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid Toner after using it for several weeks.

Glycolic Acid toner by The Ordinary
The skin toner that went viral

Understanding Glycolic Acid

Before diving into my experience with The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid, it’s essential to understand what glycolic acid is and what it can do for your skin. Glycolic acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane. It is renowned for its exfoliating properties and is commonly used to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. Glycolic acid works by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells, making it easier to slough off the top layer of dull, damaged skin. This process can result in a smoother, more radiant complexion.

My Skin Type and Concerns

To provide context for my review, I believe it’s essential to share some details about my skin type and concerns. I have combination skin, which means I deal with both dry and oily areas. My primary concerns include occasional breakouts, dullness, and uneven skin tone, particularly around my T-zone area.

My Experience with The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid

  1. Packaging: The Ordinary is known for its minimalist packaging, and the Glycolic Acid solution is no exception. It comes in a clear glass bottle with a dropper, which makes it easy to dispense the product without wasting any.
  2. Texture: The Glycolic Acid solution has a watery consistency and is slightly thicker than water. It doesn’t feel sticky or heavy when applied to the skin, which is a plus.
  3. Application: I incorporated The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid into my evening skincare routine. After cleansing my face, I applied a few drops of the product to a cotton pad and gently swiped it across my face, avoiding the eye area. I followed it up with my regular moisturizer.
  4. Sensation: Upon application, I experienced a mild tingling sensation, which is common with glycolic acid. It was not uncomfortable or painful, and it subsided after a minute or so. If you have sensitive skin, it’s essential to do a patch test and gradually introduce the product to your routine to avoid irritation.
  5. Results: After using The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid for several weeks, I began to notice some positive changes in my skin. My skin felt smoother and looked brighter. I also noticed that my breakouts were less frequent, and my skin tone appeared more even.
  6. Sun Protection: It’s crucial to mention that when using glycolic acid, it’s even more important to use sunscreen during the day. Glycolic acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so adequate sun protection is a must.
  7. Consistency: Consistency is key when it comes to skincare, and I found that using The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid a few times a week worked well for me. It’s important not to overuse it, as excessive exfoliation can lead to irritation.

Results

After several weeks of consistent use, I started to notice some positive changes in my skin. Also, I got to know that this toner can be used in so many different ways, apart from using it for face, watch this reel here to be shocked!

  1. Smoother Texture: One of the most noticeable improvements was the texture of my skin. It felt smoother and more refined.
  2. Brighter Complexion: My skin looked brighter and more radiant, with a noticeable reduction in dullness.
  3. Reduced Hyperpigmentation: I had some post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from past breakouts, and I saw a gradual fading of these marks over time.
  4. Reduced Clogged Pores: The Glycolic Acid helped to unclog pores and minimize the appearance of blackheads.
  5. Improved Absorption: I found that my skincare products, especially serums and moisturizers, absorbed better into my skin after using Glycolic Acid.

The Ordinary’s Approach

One of the things that I appreciate about The Ordinary is its commitment to simplicity and transparency. Their Glycolic Acid product contains a straightforward ingredient list, primarily consisting glycolic acid itself, along with a few supporting ingredients to balance its potency and minimize irritation. The formula is vegan, cruelty-free, and free from many common skincare irritants, making it suitable for a wide range of skin types.

How to use:

Try to incorporate The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid into your skincare routine gradually, as AHAs can be potent and potentially irritating if not used correctly. Here’s how you can integrate it into your skincare regimen:

  1. Patch Test: Begin by doing a patch test on a small area of your skin to ensure you don’t experience any adverse reactions.
  2. Frequency: You should start using the product just once a week, gradually increasing the frequency as your skin becomes accustomed to it. (Ideally, you should not use it more than twice a week)
  3. Evening Use: You should apply the Glycolic Acid in the evening after cleansing and before moisturizing. Sunscreen during the day should be a must, as AHAs can increase sensitivity to the sun.

Conclusion

In conclusion, The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid is an affordable and effective addition to your skincare routine, especially if you’re looking to address issues like uneven skin tone, texture, and dullness. It has helped me achieve a smoother, brighter complexion while addressing issues like hyperpigmentation and clogged pores. However, it’s essential to use it with caution, especially if you have sensitive skin. Start slow, patch test, and be diligent about sunscreen usage during the day.

As with any skincare product, individual results may vary, so it’s a good idea to do a patch test before applying it to your face. Overall, I’m pleased with the results I’ve seen while using The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid, and I plan to continue incorporating it into my skincare routine.

Remember that skincare is highly individual, and what works for one person may not work for another. It’s always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional to determine the best products and routines for your unique skin concerns. Nevertheless, for those looking to incorporate an effective AHA into their skincare regimen without breaking the bank, The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid is worth considering.

My obsession with Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oils!

Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oils and my obsession with them! In this post learn why you need to give them a try! If you follow my blog and my Instagram account then by now you must be aware that I am clearly way too obsessed with oils and love using them for almost everything!

My obsession with Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oils!

In this post you’ll read:

  1. Introduction
  2. About Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oils– Face (What it does, Features, Ingredients, How to use.)
  3. Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil- (What it does, Features, Ingredients, How to use.)
  4. Final Verdict!
  5. Bonus: My Tried and Tested Tips for using Oils!

We are going to talk about two different products by Palmer’s, both are from Palmer’s Skin Therapy range, one is designed for the face while the other one can be used on face as well other body parts.

Hello there everyone! Raise your hands if you are still confused if using oil on the face is a good idea!! Honestly, when I first started using Facial Oils, I was so scared that I decided to use only when I didn’t have to go out (Just in case if the oil broke me out!). Contrary to my belief that facial oils are horrible for people with Oily skin, I was surprised to see how good my skin felt after using it! My first facial oil helped me explore the wonderful world of oils and since then there has been no looking back! 😉

I have been religiously using (Can you believe I carry my oils all the way to India with me!) Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil and Palmer’s Hydration Oil, I love how these two have so many uses and are so versatile. Apart from using on my face and neck, I love using them for my cuticles, my knuckles, stretch marks, they even work really well for the skin around stomach and thighs! I also use them before applying my makeup (in winters) for a dewy glow!

  • Using the pump, apply liberally on the affected area.
  • Massage gently till it is absorbed.

Final Verdict!

I love the fact that Palmer’s products are easily available in UAE and abroad, so I don’t really have to worry about them being unavailable. Apart from availability of the products, I love Palmer’s for being so active and taking steps for the environment.a

To begin with, I don’t have wrinkles or ageing skin. However, I do have (many!) dark spots all over my face and I plan to use this Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil for Face to see if it will help in reducing my dark spots. Right now, I can vouch for the fact that it moisturises my skin and makes it glow and gives a dewy appearance (I love using it before bedtime and the skin looks so good in the morning! **Touchwood** hehe)

Prior to using the Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil for Face, I was already using the regular Skin Therapy Oil (I used it mainly for a scar on my arm) hence with consistent use, I know that it really does help to lighten the appearance of the scars. Check out more product reviews here.

My Tried and Tested Tips for using Oils!

When is the best time to apply oils? How much oil should you be using? What other products should you be using in combination with your oils? Here are some basic tips to help you get the most out of your Facial Oils:

  1. You can Combine Oils With Serums or Moisturisers.
  2. ALWAYS do a patch test.
  3. It is advisable to apply oil on damp skin.
  4. Pay attention to Day and Night time oils.
  5. Do not Rub or Massage your face vigorously.
  6. Avoid exposure to dust and heat when you have your oil on. (Basic!)
  7. Always clean your face before applying oil.
  8. Don’t Overdo it, a couple of drops is all you need.
  9. There’s no “one size fits all” in skincare, pay attention to your skin.

Note: I received these products by Palmer’s to be reviewed. However, all views and opinions are honest and solely based on my experience.

How to use Palmer’s Coconut Oil Anti-Oxidant Firming Lotion and Sheet Mask?

So you can either use both the products together or separately. I have listed down the steps for using them separately.

Lotion:

Use daily after thoroughly cleaning the skin to moisturise and tone. Massage into skin in a circular motion, concentrating on problem areas. For better results start by applying Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Firming Sheet Mask to target areas, then follow by applying Palmer’s Coconut Oil Anti-Oxidant Firming Lotion all over your body. Not only it smells delicious but it does a fantastic job at moisturising and hydrating the skin. I’ve been loving Palmer’s products for a while now and they have everything that I always look for in body or hair or skin care products. You can buy this firming lotion here.

Sheet:

  • Step 1– Use on the clean and dry skin. Carefully remove the sheets from the pouch.
  • Step 2 – Apply to the target area, such as upper arm, thigh, stomach, hip, or buttock. Gently press to smooth into place. Repeat on another side with the second sheet (Each pouch contains 2 sheets).
  • Step 3– Leave the sheet on for 10 minutes. You may feel a cool, tingling sensation. Remove the sheet, massage excess product into the skin. Tadaa! Say Hello to your Firmer-Self!

My Experience-

Firming Sheets:

Each pouch has 2 sheets inside it, I decided to use them with a gap of 2 days in between each application to see how it feels like! I decided to use the sheets on my outer thighs, which I feel do need some toning. (I used the sheets post bath, on towel dried skin) The sheets are completely soaked in a thick yet not sticky lotion. To be honest I love the smell! Placed the sheets on both the sides and pressed gently and left it for 15 minutes.

I felt a very little tingling sensation, thankfully it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. After removing the sheets and massaged the excess lotion into the skin. Was really tempted to use the same sheets on my tummy as it still had a lot of lotion left! LoL

The body firming sheet mask has Brazilian Guarana to encourage blood flow and improve firmness, giving a more slender appearance. As a result, the skin looked so hydrated and needless to say smelled so good! To my surprise, yes it did work! I could see how the skin looked more toned and firm. Surprisingly, after second application (after 2 days) a couple of the stretch marks also disappeared! Which I didn’t even expect as I was hoping only for firmer and toner thighs!! (Yayy!! Bonus!) You can use these daily for intensified effects and they’re safe to use on the upper arms, thighs, hips, stomach or buttocks. You can buy these firming sheets here.

Lotion:

I’ve been using this anti-oxidant firming lotion every day and I really enjoy the lightweight texture, the coconut smell and the fact that it quickly gets absorbed into the skin. There is no greasy residue and my skin feels smooth and hydrated. The flip lid is easy to open and the pack is easy to carry and the tube stands well on the lid. The moisturiser is white, medium thickness and creamy, easy to apply and absorbs well. I can feel my skin tighten within a couple of minutes and skin feels beautifully hydrated all day and there is no greasy feel. Good value for money.

My Personal Experience

Like I usually do I tried them for good 10 days before penning down my review. I noticed that the most difficult part was decided which product was my fav, cause I loved each one of it!

The products do what they claim, the hair oil is extremely effective and you will notice a positive effect right after second application.

Read more about the products here.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil deep conditioning protein pack.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil pack

As much as I love going for outdoor activities my hair hates them all! I leave the home with most perfect hair one can probably ask for and come back with nothing different from a bush on my head (sometimes even worse!) I have extremely demanding hair (call them unruly, high maintenance, or whatever you may please!) If I don’t take proper care of them I experience hair fall, split ends and whatnot almost immediately. I might go without eating but I have to feed my hair Regularly! (sigh) (You can buy it here)

The question arises what to feed them?! (And you thought feeding a child was hard!) Apart from hair oils I always rely on hair masks. I try to rely on homemade hair masks but sometimes when you have a super busy day you need a quick fix, that is the time when ready-made hair masks come handy.

Picking the right hair mask

This step is a big task in itself. I ensure that I don’t end up applying chemicals to my hair. Chemicals might provide momentary benefits but in the long run, they harm your hair and might cause serious hair issues. I always take a lot of pain in picking The Right Hair Mask. Always read the ingredients, see if there is any term you don’t know and google it up. Try not to use anything that has artificial colour, or Sulfates, Sodium, etc. I ensure that it should be organic, natural and not tested on animals. When I got my hands on Palmer’s coconut hair mask, I immediately knew I have to try this one out. It had everything I was looking for in a hair mask.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil pack for that Back-From-Salon Hair Spa feel-

  • Brand- Palmer’s
  • Product- Coconut Oil deep conditioning protein pack
  • Main Ingredients- Ethnically and sustainably sourced Raw coconut oil, Vitamin E, infused with flower petals.
  • Plus points- Free from harmful chemicals and Parabens. No added fragrance, No gluten, No added colour. No Sulfates. Not tested on animals (Always make sure that you read about this), Sustainably sourced. Suited for damaged and coloured hair as well.

My Experience-

So as per the directions you may either leave it on for 10-15 minutes or overnight for extra hydration. I opted for extra hydration as I have dry ends and has returned from a (very) sunny day on the beach. My hair was crying for help! I washed my hair, applied Palmer’s Coconut Oil deep conditioning protein pack to the strands, covered it with a cap and said goodnight!

I woke up and Voila I knew it was a good hair day for me! I could feel it! My hair felt smooth and not heavy at all. I noticed I had a subtle shine (very rare for me! LoL) My hair smelled good, the smell is very light (a plus point for me, not a fan of coconut smell!) I noticed that my hair also had volume. My hair was manageable and the dry ends were almost gone too.

For me, this product is a thumbs up! Confused about a product, read the review here before buying it.

Review for Raw Shea Shampoo and Conditioner

“Why”, “What”, “How” of Shea and who needs to try the Raw Shea Shampoo and Conditioner by Palmers.

Review for Raw Shea Formula Moisture Repair

Review for Raw Shea Formula Moisture Repair and why you need to try these two products. Unless you have been hiding under a rock the past several years, you most definitely heard the word, Shea, as in Shea butter, floating around! It’s used in hair and skin products the world over, people swear by it!

The name Karité means the Tree of Life, due to the multitude of important uses that Shea butter provides.

What is Shea Butter?

Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African Shea tree. It is usually yellow in colour when raw, with Unrefined, refined, and Ultra-Refined Shea butter being ivory or white in colour. In olden days women in Africa used raw Shea to moisturise their hair and nourish their skin. Shea butter not only helps in moisturising, but it also helps in repairing and restoring. It is said to protect hair and skin from the harsh sun.

Why Shea Butter and what are its benefits?

  • Anti-ageing Properties
  • Protection against sun exposure
  • Natural moisturizer
  • Promotes hair growth (though not proved yet people claim that they noticed positive results)
  • Can help reduce skin inflammation

Can help protect your hair from UV rays and environmental pollutants

Which one to use?

The best form is Raw Shea butter that has not been processed or bleached and is free from any artificial colouring and fragrance. Not all forms of Shea butter are good for usage. Many cheap quality shea butter available in the market that might do more harm than good.

Let’s begin our review for Raw Shea Formula Moisture Repair

Plus point-

Like I mentioned Raw Shea is of the best quality and is best for usage, Palmer’s has ensured that consumers get the maximum benefit and hence has used Raw Shea for these products.

  • No Sulfates, or Parabens,
  • Free from Phthalates,
  • Doesn’t contain Mineral oil,
  • No Gluten or Dyes.
  • Ethically traded and sustainably produced.
  • I appreciate how Palmer’s is against animal testing.

Contains-

  • Raw Shea Butter – Helps in Deeply moisturising and repairing hair.
  • Argan Oil – Enhances vibrancy and shine.
  • Grape Seed Oil – Protects against colour fade and dullness.

Details-

As I mentioned Raw Shea is best, Palmer’s has used Raw Shea in these products to ensure that maximum benefit can be obtained. Shea butter is rich in Vitamin E and A. It is used to prevent weak hair from breaking, fading or thinning out; to prevent dandruff, and revitalize split ends. Shea butter will protect hair from the damaging rays of the sun, hairdryers, perms and dyes. Unlike petroleum-based products, it will not clog pores and block hair shafts. It is used as a conditioning sheen to maintain hair’s natural shine and improve manageability.

My Personal Experience-

I am very wary when it comes to using any hair care product, I research for the ingredients, their effects, research about the brand before I decide to use it on my hair. Since I had already used Palmer’s for my hair before I saved time and researched only about Shea butter! I have very dry and frizzy hair, I was more than excited to use these products as Shea Butter is well known for its moisturizing properties.

I liked how it doesn’t have a strong fragrance, the fact that it doesn’t contain Sulphates or Parabens also won my heart even before I used it. the shampoo doesn’t dry your hair out, it also doesn’t lather much.

Firstly I used it without applying the conditioner and I noticed that my hair was pretty much manageable. I used it next with the conditioner, it made my hair way much manageable and smooth. Raw Shea Shampoo and Conditioner is gentle on the scalp, though I have a sensitive scalp I did not notice any itching or dandruff post using it. The conditioner is not heavy on the hair and doesn’t make your hair limp. The smell of the products is not very strong or overwhelming.

Main Ingredients-

  • Peppermint Oil

My Experience-

So I Cleaned my feet and applied the cream at night and then covered with cotton socks, as mentioned in the directions to use. The consistency is thick like butter but gets absorbed without giving that sticky feeling. Peppermint gives a cooling sensation, Shea butter smoothens the rough skin and Vitamin-E hydrates it. In the morning you will notice a positive difference. The skin around the heels feels smooth, you will notice that the ridges have reduced and the skin looks hydrated.

An oil that improves texture, gives a subtle glow, hydrates your skin and doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket!

My Review for Luminous Hydration Facial oil by Palmers-

Blessed with super dramatic oily to combination skin loves to throw a pimple or two very often! Hence, I am always sceptical about using oils on my face, mainly because most of them are heavy and clog the pores, which means they do more harm than good. Hate to admit but all my life I never applied any oil to my face. Ever! It was only after I got my hands (more than 6 months now!) Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil that I start using Facial Oils.

I have to admit, now the only regret I have is- Why didn’t I start using oil on my face before!

Since I had already used a facial oil by Palmer’s so I was a bit less sceptical about using Palmer’s Luminous Hydration Facial oil! I started by doing my own FBI research on the internet! Not only did I come across some amazing reviews but also how this oil can be used in so many different ways. This lightweight formula doesn’t clog pores, in fact, you can use it under your makeup for a dewy glow, you can mix it with your night cream, use it as a massage oil for the face, use it post face mask, and so on!
